because of illness, Gene only missed the 2007 Gene Foster Traditional Rendezvous, which was named in his honor. He loved the sport of archry and was a skilled hunter with the bow and arrow.
I wish I knew more of his history so I could share it with you. I know that he was loved by everyone he met and was a very happy individual. He loved to fill empty cups full of hooch when they were not looking too! He would hold court around a bond fire down by the big oak tree in the camping area after the shoot. Everyone loved listening to his stories and just kicking back with him in general.
At his request, no services were held
Donations may be made in his memory to the Moose Lodge 1632, 961 Eloise Ave., South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 or to the Hospice of Lake/Valley, 2092 Lake Tahoe Blvd. No 500, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.
It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of one of our own, Gene Foster.
Gene Francis Foster, Born in Covelo, Calif., Jan. 20, 1924. known and referred to by many as Papa Gene, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Predeceased by his wife of many years, MayeBell in 1983. They made their home in South Lake Tahoe where they moved from Fresno in 1964.
Gene was A World War II US Marine veteran and served in the South Pacific.
Papa Gene made his living as a Carpenter and was in the Carpenters Union Local N0. 1789 for 44 years.
Gene and MayeBell were Life Members and were active in the club for many, many years. In fact,

The Fresno Safari 2008 has left the building.... First of all we want to thank all our members who participated in getting this year's Safari up and running. A special thanks to Robert Atchley who singlehandly sent out raffle donation letters to all the different entities for donations for our raffle. He has done this for the past few years since Herman left our club. Thank you Robert.
We had 269 shooters this year. Down from last year but it was still a fun shoot. Everyone seem satisfied with every aspect of the shoot. Our new Scorekeeper, Steve Doidge with his helpers, Jack Essman, Laura Neal, Pat Curd, and others I am unaware of did a wonderful job. He had all the shooters in, scorecards recorded on board and awarded by 1:30 pm. Folks were rolling out with their campers soon after. Unbelievable that he could get things done so quickly... I guess that is what you get having two teachers behind there.... I always heard the teachers like half days. Well they made Safari Sunday a half day for sure!
Our resident chef, Bryan Miller, put on a great feed Saturday night. If you missed it, you missed a great meal. In this reporters mind, it was the best archers dinner I think I have ever had.
Unfortunately most sales were down this year. I suppose the shooters had to decide not to spend much on extras so they could afford the gas to get to the range..... And we are so happy they came.
All in all, everyone had a great time. The food booths were busy and we had a lot of satisfied participants. But I for one am glad it is over. Now we get to play for a few months before we have to start planning for our Gene Foster Rendezvous in November.
